Admission is open to all members of Sacred Heart of Mary Parish that meet admissions qualifications. Although parishioners are given priority, children of any faith may be enrolled. Parents interested in enrolling children at Sacred Heart of Mary School should call the school office to set an appointment with the principal. If, after discussing the philosophy and school programs, parents decide to register, the following are required:
- Proof of membership in the parish (if the child is Catholic).
- Birth certificate.
- Baptismal certificate (if the child is a baptized Catholic).
- Immunization card indicating that the child has been immunized against polio, diphtheria, measles, German measles, tetanus.
- To enter PK-4 the child must be 4 according to Maryland state regulations. This changes year to year, so please see the state website.
- To enter kindergarten, a child must be five years of age by September 1st. according to state regulations. (**New Guideline**)
- To enter first grade, a child must be six years of age by September 1st. of the current school year. (**New Guideline**)
- All entering first grade must have attended kindergarten.
All children entering kindergarten are screened to determine any areas of difficulty. The Early Prevention of School Failure Test is used for this. Students indicating needs beyond the scope of our services will not be enrolled, as this is not in the best interest of the child.
Children transferring into grades 2 through 6 are to present their most recent report card and standardized test results. 7th and 8th grade students will not be accepted unless that student in transferring from another Archdiocesan School.
Transfer students from another Catholic school in the Archdiocese must present a Transfer Slip from the previous school. Transfer students are on probation throughout their first year at Sacred Heart of Mary School. Unsatisfactory behavior or lack of academic progress may result in a transfer at the end of the year.
Book bill and registration fees are paid at registration.
The registration fee is non-refundable.
Since cooperation between the school and parents is vital, no registration will be considered final until a parent signature of agreement regarding the school philosophy and information compiled in the parent/student handbook is on file in the school office.
